Kya Publishing Announces Date for the 2018 Toronto Urban Book Expo

TORONTO, ONT (December 2017) - Toronto independent publishing company Kya Publishing has just announced the date of their 5th annual Toronto Urban Book Expo (TUBE): Friday, August 3, 2018.

TUBE is the only Canadian event dedicated to celebrating Urban Fiction and authors; this event highlights published and independent writers and their books at a free and family-friendly book fair. Features of the event also include live urban music from DJ Majesty 101, refreshments, and giveaways.

Kya Publishing--committed to the celebration of contemporary Canadian Urban Fiction and culture through their books, research, events, and community initiatives--has established this annual venue for urban authors to sell their books and raise awareness for this genre of cultural writing.

Kya Publishing to Host Urban Fiction Writing Workshop at Toronto Public Library (Malvern)

TORONTO, ONT (December 2017) - Independent publishing company Kya Publishing is scheduled to host an Urban Fiction Writing Workshop on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the Toronto Public Library, as a part of their annual Black History Month programming. The workshop, open to teens and adults of all experience levels, will be held at the Malvern Branch (30 Sewells Road) from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Admission is free, and all aspiring writers are welcome to drop in!

The 90-minute workshop, created by Kya Publishing author Kamilah Haywood, and co-facilitated by Stacey Marie Robinson, will provide a seminar-style overview of the genre of Urban Fiction, and the importance of documenting Canadian urban stories. While discussing the inspiration for their Urban Fiction titles, the authors will present examples from Canadian urban music, events, texts, art, and culture.

Toronto Urban Book Expo Partners with Nia Centre for the Arts' Blowout Festival 2017

TORONTO, ONT (July 2017) - Kya Publishing has partnered with Nia Centre for the Arts for their inaugural Blowout Festival, and will join their Blowout Symposium on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. Taking place during Toronto's celebratory Simcoe Day long weekend (aka Toronto Carnival Weekend), the Symposium will feature a unique carnival arts exhibit in addition to Kya Publishing's Toronto Urban Book Expo.

The 4th annual Toronto Urban Book Expo is the only Canadian event dedicated to celebrating urban fiction and culture. This event will feature published and independent writers selling their books at a free and family-friendly book fair. Live hip hop, R&B, reggae, and soca music will once again be provided by Toronto's DJ Majesty. Attendees of the Book Expo will now also be able to experience Nia Centre's exhibit and carnival arts experience, as they commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Caribbean Carnival in Toronto.

A non-profit organization, Nia Centre for the Arts is a Toronto-based facility focused on the development of young people through culturally relevant arts experiences. Providing programming and services to engage young people artistically, emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually, Nia Centre strives to support the development of healthy identities and positive life choices, while promoting arts from an African-Diasporic perspective.

Staying committed to their mandate to help communicate and celebrate urban Canadian culture, Kya Publishing is also providing promotional sponsorship for Nia Centre's carnival costume "BOMBAX," designed by SugaCayne Designs, and scheduled to participate in the Peeks Toronto Caribbean Carnival's grand parade on Saturday, August 5 in downtown Toronto (Day 1 of the Blowout Festival).
